February 2016 In recognition of its innovative acquisition strategy and sale to Norwest Equity Partners (NEP), Chartwell is excited to share our nomination of Marco, Inc. for the 2016 BOLD Awards! Presented annually by the Association for Corporate Growth Minnesota (ACG Minnesota), the BOLD Awards honor organizations that have recently completed a courageous merger, acquisition, divestiture, capital raise, joint venture, or strategic alliance. Innovative, daring, and BOLD, the BOLD Awards celebrate BOLDness and honor the very best in innovation, talent management, collaboration, and corporate growth strategies. The Awards commend small-and-growing companies to large organizations for exhibiting novel approaches and BOLD ways to address market challenges. Leaders and their advisory teams are acknowledged for imagination, innovation, and extraordinary efforts to create stakeholder value and grow Minnesota. Past BOLD Award winners include Angie’s Boomchickapop, ABRA Auto Body, Pinky Swear Foundation, Surgical Science, Surly Brewing Co., Baldinger Bakery, and Hormel Foods. Marco has built an admirable track record of growth, customer retention, and successful acquisitions. In the past three years, the company acquired 15 companies and added 430 employees to its workforce. Marco is also executing plans to go national and its sale to NEP provides the company with more financial resources, leadership, and talent to achieve accelerated growth goals. “Selling our company was a BOLD move. And to sell under my watch, it needed to be the best possible transaction for everyone involved,” said Marco’s CEO Jeff Gau. “We felt the decision to sell Marco was the right one – for our employees, our communities, and our clients.” Marco's strong client and employee-focused culture have contributed to the company's ongoing success, and the company, in partnership with NEP, plans to sustain that culture through its next phase of growth. NEP's capital is a significant milestone for Marco and will be used to help the company fuel and achieve strategic growth initiatives, including penetrating new customer channels, enhancing its current market position, expanding geographically via acquisitions, and augmenting its technology capabilities. Marco’s partnership with NEP will also expand career opportunities for its employees and create more jobs in the communities it serves. A total of 62 companies were nominated for the 2016 BOLD Awards. With four nominations, Marco set an all-time record for receiving the most submissions. As part of the BOLD Awards process, Marco and its trusted advisors attended the Nominee Reception where a peer panel of judges reviewed and ranked the nominees. Over 200 attendees interacted throughout the event and promoted their company’s story. Marco had 14 professionals from the deal team at the event to support their nomination. Twelve BOLD finalists will be honored by the ACG Minnesota at the BOLD Awards event on February 23, 2016. A gala celebration of BOLD bets, big deals, and the innovative teams behind them, the Awards feature the inspirational stories of the winners and celebrate the best in BOLD. At the event, judges select one winner from each size category and, to cap off the evening, all guests cast a live vote to name the “BOLD-est of the BOLD” Award winner. Chartwell is proud to be a corporate table sponsor of the ACG BOLD Awards. For more details and to get-your-BOLD-on visit http://www.acg.org/minnesota/boldawards.aspx.
