Chartwell Advises MacArthur Company on Purchase of Snavely Forest Products

MINNEAPOLIS - February 7, 2018 - Chartwell is pleased to announce MacArthur Company’s successful purchase of Snavely Forest Products.  Founded in 1902, Snavely operates lumber distribution facilities in Pennsylvania, Maryland, North Carolina, Texas, and Colorado.  The footprint of Snavely’s distribution centers is a perfect extension of MacArthur’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Weekes Forest Products, which was acquired in 2014.  Weekes has distribution centers in Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, and Florida, as well as a trading office in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Combined, Snavely and Weekes will service 17 states with lumber and building materials.

MacArthur engaged Chartwell to provide guidance to its Board of Directors throughout the Snavely transaction process.  Chartwell conducted in-depth analyses to advise MacArthur on investment considerations and purchase price, as well as financing needs to fund the acquisition and the ongoing working capital requirements of the combined companies.  Chartwell managed the transaction process and effectively negotiated deal terms and conditions opposite Snavely’s financial advisors to successfully close the transaction.

“Chartwell has been a trusted advisor to MacArthur since 2004 and has advised us in completing a number of strategic acquisitions over the years.  Joining MacArthur’s family of companies, Snavely will maintain and enhance their respective long-standing customer relationships as well as their employee-centric culture.  We were very fortunate to have Chartwell’s expert advice throughout the process.  Chartwell’s experience in negotiating transactions, combined with their in-depth understanding of our unique business needs, makes them the ideal partner for us.  We look forward to completing more successful transactions with Chartwell in the future.”
